Allow or turn off comments on a blog

Comments can provide a place for conversations about your business and products. You can allow customers to comment on your blog posts, turn off comments, or allow comments pending moderation.

When you create a new blog, comments are turned off by default. The comment settings have the following three options:

  • Comments are disabled: Visitors to your blog can't leave comments on posts.
  • Comments are allowed, pending moderation: Visitors to your blog can leave comments, but you will need to review the comments before they display on your blog.
  • Comments are allowed, and are automatically published: Visitors to your blog can leave comments and they display on your blog without your review.

Note

Before you can allow comments for a blog, you need to publish at least one blog post.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Blog Posts.
  2. Click Manage blogs.
  3. Click the name of the blog you want to edit.
  4. In the Comments section, select the option that you want, and then click Save.

Tip

You can remove or moderate individual comments on blog posts.

Approve or delete comments

If you choose to allow comments pending moderation, then you will have to approve all comments before they're published on your blog. You can approve or delete multiple comments using a bulk action.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Blog Posts.
  2. Click Manage comments.
  3. Select at least one comment.
  4. Click Actions, and then click Approve to publish the selected comments on your blog, or click Delete.

Tip

You can also moderate comments for a blog post on its details page.

Remove spam comments

Shopify checks all blog comments for signs of spam and flags them. Flagged comments won't be displayed on your blog, but they will appear in your Shopify admin. You can mark comments as spam manually.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Blog Posts.
  2. Click Manage comments.
  3. Select at least one comment.
  4. Click Actions, and then click Mark as spam.
  5. Optional: Click Actions, and then click Delete to remove spam comments from your admin.

Note

If a selected comment is mistakenly marked as spam, then you can click Unmark as spam from the Actions dropdown. This removes the flag and sends a notification to Shopify to help improve the spam filters.
