Product sniffer settings
Use this settings group in the theme editor to make product links inside articles more useful to readers. When it’s enabled, products linked in the article can appear in the sidebar and as inline hover cards, adding shopping context without changing the article’s main content.
This works by scanning article content for links to products in your store. If matching products are found, they can be surfaced automatically for readers. For more detail on how the feature works, see product sniffer. For a broader overview of how theme content is organized, see Shopify documentation on sections and blocks
Product display
Section titled “Product display”The main display control decides whether detected products should be shown alongside the article. Turn it on for content such as buying guides, gift guides, tutorials, and editorials where product mentions are part of the reading experience.
Turn it off when articles should stay focused on reading with minimal shopping prompts. The product links can still remain in the article text, but the extra product presentation will not appear.
Products only appear when the article includes valid product links and matching products are found. If no qualifying links are present, no sidebar product list will be shown.
Sidebar heading
Section titled “Sidebar heading”Use the sidebar heading to explain why these products are being shown. A short, specific label usually works best because it helps readers connect the products to the article topic at a glance.
Choose wording that fits the article type. Neutral labels suit educational or editorial content, while more curated wording can work well for roundups and seasonal stories.
The heading is only shown when product display is enabled and products are actually found, so you do not need to account for an empty sidebar state.
Usage notes
Section titled “Usage notes”- Link relevant products. Add product links only where they genuinely support the article so the detected products feel helpful rather than promotional.
- Check link accuracy. Review article links carefully, since the feature depends on valid links to actual product pages.
- Preview both viewports. Review the sidebar and inline cards on desktop and mobile, especially if the presentation uses slider-style controls or separate desktop and mobile media, since layout, navigation, and readability can differ.
- Expect fallback behavior. Empty or unavailable recommendation results should not create a broken empty experience, so confirm the feature still feels clean when only some linked products are eligible.
- Keep headings concise. Use a short sidebar label that clearly matches the article’s purpose and tone.
