Shipping settings

Control free shipping messaging and set the order threshold customers need to qualify.

In Shopify documentation on the theme editor, this theme settings group lets you promote free shipping as a storewide incentive. It lets you control whether free shipping messaging appears and what order value customers need to meet before that offer applies.

Enable this setting when free shipping is part of your current offer. The theme can then surface that incentive across relevant shopping experiences, helping customers understand the target they need to reach.

If you are not offering free shipping, turn the messaging off. This keeps purchase-related messaging clear and avoids setting expectations the order may not actually qualify for.

The threshold in this theme settings group should match your actual free shipping rule. If the values differ, customers may see an offer in the theme that does not match the shipping rates they receive.

Set the threshold in your store currency. The theme will automatically show the amount in a shopper’s selected currency, so the target stays understandable for customers browsing internationally.

A good threshold should feel achievable while still encouraging larger orders. If it is set too low, it may not meaningfully increase cart value. If it is set too high, customers may ignore the message.

Free shipping messaging works best when it reflects a real, active promotion and stays aligned with your current pricing and shipping strategy. Review this setting whenever you update shipping rates, run campaigns, or change the products customers commonly buy together.

  1. Match the real offer. Keep the displayed threshold aligned with the actual free shipping condition customers must meet.
  2. Set a realistic target. Choose a minimum spend that feels attainable and supports higher cart values.
  3. Disable inactive messaging. Turn this off when free shipping is not available so the theme does not overpromise.
  4. Check international display. Review how the threshold reads in other currencies to make sure the goal still feels clear.
  5. Update after campaign changes. Revisit this setting whenever shipping promotions, pricing, or order-building tactics change.
