Filter group
Use this block to create a custom tag-based filter group in your collection filters. Each block appears as its own expandable filter module, so you can stack multiple groups to organize filtering choices more clearly. For more detail, see the Filter group block reference. For setup context in the theme editor, see Shopify documentation on sections and blocks
Core settings
Section titled “Core settings”This block is controlled by three practical choices: the group name, the tags included in the group, and whether the group opens by default.
Use Filter title to give the group a clear shopper-facing label. Short, familiar names work best, especially when customers need to scan several filter groups quickly.
Use Filter tags to define the filter options shown in the group. Enter tags as a comma-separated list, and make sure each one matches the product tags in your catalog exactly. Consistent naming matters here, especially if similar tags have different capitalization, spacing, or wording.
Turn on Show open by default when this group contains high-priority filters that customers are likely to use first. If you plan to stack several filter groups, leaving less important ones closed can make the filter area easier to browse.
This block depends on consistent product tagging. If the tags entered here do not match the tags used on products, the filter group may be incomplete or less useful than expected.
Usage notes
Section titled “Usage notes”- Keep titles shopper-friendly. Use plain-language group names that describe the filter choices clearly at a glance.
- Match tag text exactly. Use the same wording as your product tags to avoid missing or confusing filter options.
- Group related tags together. Build each block around one attribute or theme so the filter panel stays easy to scan.
- Open only key groups. Start a group expanded only when it contains the most important filtering choices for that collection.
- Check real collections. Review the filter group on live collection pages to confirm the included tags make sense for the products shown.
- Review both preview and storefront views. The theme editor can help you configure the block before live content is available, but the published result is what matters for final spacing and readability.
- Test desktop and mobile. Confirm the filter group still scans well on both viewport sizes, since layout and visibility can differ between them.
