Breadcrumb

Add a manual parent link for clearer breadcrumb navigation.

Use this block to add a fixed parent link to the breadcrumb trail. It helps you guide customers back to an important higher-level page when you want a clearer, more intentional navigation path. For a broader overview of how theme components are organized, see Shopify documentation on sections and blocks

You can use it to point to a collection, landing page, or content hub that genuinely sits above the current page. For reference, see the source-provided guide: Breadcrumb block reference.

The main settings control the parent link itself: the label customers see, the destination, and whether the link opens in a new tab. Keep the text short and familiar so the breadcrumb stays easy to scan.

Choose a destination that feels like a true parent step in the browsing path. This block works best when the link supports navigation rather than promotion.

Add a manual parent link only when it reflects a real step back in the page hierarchy. If the link feels unrelated or overly broad, the breadcrumb becomes less useful.

Opening the link in a new tab is usually unnecessary for breadcrumb navigation. In most cases, using the same tab creates a more natural browsing experience.

Visibility settings control whether this block appears on mobile, desktop, or both. This is helpful when you want to simplify tighter layouts without removing the block everywhere. For theme editor placement and device-related setup, see Shopify documentation on theme editor features overview

If you hide the block on one device type, make sure customers still have another clear way to move up to broader pages. You can review the source-provided visibility reference here: Visibility settings reference.

  1. Match the destination. Use link text that closely matches the page customers will open.
  2. Choose a real parent page. Link to a higher-level category, hub, or overview page rather than a promotional destination.
  3. Avoid unnecessary new tabs. Keep breadcrumb links in the same tab unless you have a specific reason not to.
  4. Check smaller screens. If you hide the block on mobile, confirm the page still feels easy to navigate.
  5. Review both viewports. Desktop and mobile visibility can change how the breadcrumb fits, aligns, or appears, so check both before publishing.
  6. Keep the path simple. Do not add a manual parent link if it duplicates nearby navigation without improving clarity.
