Slide
Use this block to add a single slide with its own message, visual style, and media. It is a good fit for feature highlights, promotional storytelling, and hero sliders where each slide needs distinct content. For more context on how blocks fit into themes, see Shopify documentation on sections and blocks
Core settings
Section titled “Core settings”Start with the slide’s text content: icon, heading, and body copy. A short heading usually works best, with the content area handling supporting details, feature context, or a brief promotional message.
The icon field can display either an emoji or an icon name. Use it when you want a quick visual cue at the start of the slide, or leave it blank for a cleaner presentation. If you need help choosing icon names, refer to the source-provided icon guide.
Imagery settings
Section titled “Imagery settings”This group controls the slide’s visual media. Add an image for a static presentation, or use video when motion helps explain a feature or creates stronger visual impact.
If both image and video are added, the video takes priority and will autoplay when the slide becomes active. Short, lightweight clips tend to work better than longer videos, especially when the slide is part of a fast-moving sequence. For practical setup guidance, see the source-provided video guide.
The inactive overlay color and opacity affect how the slide looks when it is not the active slide. Increase the overlay when media feels too bright or distracting in the background, and reduce it when you want more of the image or video to remain visible.
If your image does not appear, check whether a video has also been added, since video overrides image on this block.
Standard block settings
Section titled “Standard block settings”Visibility settings
Section titled “Visibility settings”Visibility controls let you hide this block on desktop or mobile. This is useful when you want different copy lengths, alternate media crops, or simpler slide content on smaller screens. For related editor behavior, see Shopify documentation on customizing sections
When creating separate mobile and desktop versions, keep the message consistent so customers are not seeing conflicting slide content across devices. You can also review the source-provided visibility settings reference.
Usage notes
Section titled “Usage notes”- Keep copy concise. Short headings and brief supporting text are easier to absorb inside a slideshow.
- Choose media deliberately. Use video only when motion adds clear value, and prefer images when you want a lighter, simpler slide.
- Tune inactive overlays carefully. Adjust overlay color and opacity so non-active slides stay visible without competing with the active one.
- Plan for device differences. Review both desktop and mobile versions, since controls, alignment, visibility, and media behavior can differ between viewports.
- Use fallback styling when possible. Blank or default-style values tend to preserve the surrounding design, while explicit colors, gradients, or media overrides make the slide feel more independent.
- Check active media behavior. If you configure separate desktop and mobile media, confirm cropping, loading, and readability in both layouts before publishing.
