All cards settings

Set global card defaults with a fallback image and optional box shadow.

Use these settings to keep article, collection, page, and product cards looking consistent across the theme. Because they apply broadly, even small adjustments can change how grids and listing areas feel in many places.

These controls define the default look of cards when content does not already provide everything needed for a complete presentation.

A Default image helps fill image areas when a card has no featured media available. This is most helpful for content like pages, where cards may otherwise appear uneven next to items that do include images.

Choose a fallback image that feels neutral and flexible. If it is too campaign-specific or product-specific, it can look misplaced when reused across many card types.

The Show box shadow setting changes how strongly cards stand apart from the surrounding layout. Turning it on usually helps cards read more clearly in dense grids or on pages where the card background is close to the page background.

If your design already uses strong spacing, borders, or contrast, turning shadows off can create a cleaner and more minimal look. If cards tend to blend into the page, keeping shadows on can improve scanning.

  1. Pick a reusable fallback image. Use artwork or photography that works across products, collections, articles, and pages rather than something tied to one specific message.
  2. Preview multiple templates. Check a few different grids and listing layouts after changing these settings, since the same card defaults can appear in many parts of the theme.
  3. Balance clarity and simplicity. Enable shadows when cards need more separation, and disable them if the layout already feels structured and easy to scan.
  4. Avoid repetitive placeholders. If many cards rely on the same default image, choose one that feels subtle so repeated use does not distract from the content.
  5. Check both viewports. Review cards on desktop and mobile after updating the defaults, since spacing, alignment, and media presentation can shift between breakpoints.
  6. Keep fallback styling flexible. Use the default state when you want cards to blend into the surrounding design, and add a stronger image treatment only when you need each card area to stand on its own.
