Copyright
Use this block to display copyright text in your footer and fit it neatly into the rest of the footer layout. It is best for short legal text that may need different alignment, placement, or visibility across desktop and mobile. For a broader overview of how footer content is organized, see Shopify documentation on sections and blocks
Core settings
Section titled “Core settings”The main setting lets you customize the copyright text shown in the block. Keep the content brief so it stays readable and sits cleanly alongside other footer items.
If you include extra wording, check how the text wraps in narrower layouts. Shorter text usually works better when the footer also includes menus, icons, or other compact blocks.
Alignment settings
Section titled “Alignment settings”Use these settings to control horizontal alignment on desktop and mobile separately. This helps when your footer uses a wider multi-item row on larger screens but stacks or compresses content on smaller screens.
Choose alignment based on the surrounding footer structure. Centered text often works well in stacked mobile layouts, while left or right alignment can feel more deliberate in wider desktop rows. For setup details in the theme editor, see Shopify documentation on customizing sections
Layout settings
Section titled “Layout settings”These settings control how the block sits within the footer layout. Use them when the copyright text needs to take more space, start on a new line, or break into a separate column.
Fill available space stretches the block to use the remaining room in a desktop row. This can help balance a row, but very short text may look awkward if it expands too far.
Use the new row or new column options when the copyright line should be visually separated from neighboring footer content, such as navigation or social links.
Check desktop layouts carefully when using space-filling behavior. It can improve row balance, but it can also make a short copyright line feel disconnected from the rest of the footer.
Standard block settings
Section titled “Standard block settings”Visibility settings
Section titled “Visibility settings”Use visibility controls to show this block on all devices or hide it on desktop or mobile. This is useful when you want different footer arrangements by screen size.
A common approach is to keep the copyright text inline with other footer content on desktop, then use a separate placement for mobile if the layout needs a cleaner stacked arrangement.
Usage notes
Section titled “Usage notes”- Keep text short. Brief copyright text is easier to place cleanly and less likely to wrap awkwardly.
- Match surrounding layout. Choose alignment based on nearby footer content so the block feels intentional within the full row.
- Use extra space carefully. Enable space-filling only when it improves desktop balance without making the text look isolated.
- Separate when needed. Move the block to a new row or column if it competes with links, icons, or other footer elements.
- Plan by device. Use visibility settings when desktop and mobile footers need different block placement.
- Review both screen sizes. Check the copyright block on desktop and mobile after changing alignment, spacing, or visibility so the footer still reads clearly in both layouts.
